On Sunday, March 7, 2010 a diverse roster of indie music acts from across New York City (and beyond) will lend their talents to N.Y.C. Rocks for Haiti: A Benefit Concert for UNICEF’s Haiti Emergency Fund. The event will take place at Southpaw, a popular music venue, located at 125 5th Ave in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Tickets for the 4pm – 11pm music marathon are only $10 each, and all proceeds will benefit UNICEF’s Haiti Emergency Fund.
Among the acts scheduled so far are Park Slope mainstay Debbie Deane, the adult-pop songstress signed to Ravi Coltrane’s RKM Music (also based in the Slope); four-time Grammy-nominated producer and singer/songwriter Doug Yoel (a NYC ex-pat now based in Woodstock, NY); from New York’s 131 records, rock artists Last 2 Fall and Lot 16; celebrity impersonator and actress Michele Marzano; pop/rock duo Jac&Jill; and many other special guests and surprises.
The event will have a fundraising raffle with $5 tickets for a variety of great prizes.
The producer and organizer of the event is Lot 16 and Last 2 Fall bassist/songwriter Rob Tebaldi. On his inspiration for the event, he explains: “When I saw the events unfolding in Haiti, I couldn’t help but think back to the aftermath of September 11th – and how much worse the reality was compared to what we saw in the media. I felt compelled to do something for the children who lost so much, and gathering friends together to raise money for UNICEF seemed like the best way to do it.”
Tickets for N.Y.C. Rocks for Haiti are available at the Southpaw box office, 125 5th Ave in Park Slope, Brooklyn; or on the web at www.spsounds.com. UNICEF Haiti Emergency Fund donations can be made directly at www.unicefusa.org/
