The Pride of New York is a new Irish-American super group comprised of some of the best known players on this side of the Atlantic. Between them, they have won four All-Ireland championship awards, recorded multiple solo albums, and logged countless miles touring across the US and abroad. But, at its essence, this quartet of singular talents is defined in spirit by the city of New York which gives the group its name. “We are all quintessential New York musicians,”explains fiddler Brian Conway of his playing partners Billy McComiskey on button accordion, Joanie Madden on flute and whistle, and Brendan Dolan on keyboards, “the musical camaraderie we share is rare.” Many of the tunes on the album are written or associated with other past or present stalwarts of the New York Irish scene including Martin Mulhaire, Sean McGlynn, Jack Coen, Joe Burke, Paddy O’Brien, Larry Redican, Tom Doherty, and Charlie Mulvihill.

Formed in 2005 at the Catskills Irish Arts Week and named by festival director and Irish Voice journalist Paul Keating, the Pride of New York is excited to return in 2009 with their debut album in hand. “Its fantastic to be returning to the Catskills and launching the album amongst so many of our friends and peers. This week has become a yearly mecca for traditional music lovers across America and we are thrilled to be among the performers,” says Joanie Madden of Pride of New York and Cherish the Ladies.

“…as good as it gets in Irish traditional music…”
