Inspired by Pete Seeger’s desire to clean up the river over forty years ago, the Great Hudson River Revival initially helped raise the funds to build the sloop Clearwater, which has since become a world-renowned floating classroom and a symbol of effective grassroots action. Today, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater is a non-profit organization that sails at the forefront of the nation’s environmental challenges. The revenue raised by the Revival goes to support Clearwater’s numerous educational programs and its work toward environmental and social justice—as well as keeping the sloop Clearwater afloat.

Pete Seeger & the Power of Song gets us underway on Saturday, June 19 on the Rainbow Stage. Also featured on this stage throughout the weekend are famed singer-songwriters Steve Earle and Shawn Colvin, contemporary music star Joan Osborne; Westchester County native David Bromberg and his quartet, Keller Williams, “newgrass” sensation Railroad Earth, Donna the Buffalo, Toshi Reagon, The Felice Brothers, sacred steel guitar family band The Lee Boys, and Hazmat Modine, a global blues band based in NYC. For the second consecutive year, Delfest 2010 will be preceded by a Bluegrass Academy featuring some of the most accomplished musicians on the planet.  Delfest Academy 2010 will take place May 25-27, 2010 with the festival beginning on the 27th and ending on the 30th.

As members of the Del McCoury Band, Rob, Ronnie, Alan and Jason have won IBMA’s Entertainer of the Year award nine times. Oxford American called them “The best Bluegrass band in the world. Period.” Ronnie Bowman’s bluegrass and songwriting credentials would fill up a notebook from his stint with the Lonesome River Band, leading his own band and writing two #1 country radio hits. With sterling credentials as celebrated performers, plus years of experience teaching at various workshops and festival academies such as Rockygrass and Wintergrass, these enormously gifted musicians will create an environment for learning unlike any other. Selected from over 500 applicants Mitch Barrett took 1st place in the Telluride Troubadour Competition during a 2 day elimination process.  As part of the Telluride Bluegrass Competition the Telluride Troubadour Competition is a nationally recognized songwriter competition open to anyone who writes and performs original music and who is not currently signed to a major recording or publishing deal. Contestants are judged on the quality of the song’s composition, vocal delivery, and the overall performance. Finalists are awarded cash and prizes, as well as critical acclaim, well-deserved recognition and a chance to perform on the festival main stage. With the winning of the competition Mitch wins a custom made Shanti Guitar, a main stage performance and the national recognition that comes with the title. Mitch is also a Kerrville “New Folk” winner, has won The Folks Festival Songwriting Competition in Lyons, CO out of over 900 applicants and is the only songwriter to date to win Wilkesboro, North Carolina’s Merlefest “Chris Austin Songwriting Competition” twice.

The 36th Telluride Bluegrass (June 18-21) featured David Byrne, Emmylou Harris, and Sam Bush, Elvis Costello and an all-star bluegrass band; Yonder Mountain String Band and Railroad Earth, Bela Fleck and Tim O’Brien. Performers say there is a unique thrill to performing in front of the smartest, most attentive audience in the country.
