LEGENDARY RHYTHM DEVILS TO RELEASE DELUXE TWO-DISC DVD SET FEBRUARY 3, 2009 ON STARCITY RECORDING/MRI

DEBUT RECORDING “THE RHYTHM DEVILS CONCERT EXPERIENCE” FEATURES LIVE CONCERT AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES FOOTAGE RECORDED IN 5.1 SURROUND SOUND AT THE CHICAGO THEATER

New York, NY –– StarCity Recording is proud to announce the highly anticipated live DVD release from the legendary Rhythm Devils on February 3, 2009, distribution to be handled by MRI, a division of RED Distribution. Rhythm Devils: Concert Experience deluxe two-disc DVD set features a 72-minute concert experience performed by the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart on percussion and Bill Kreutzmann on drums, bassist Mike Gordon from Phish, vocalist Jen Durkin of Deep Banana Blackout, Dead-family guitarist Steve Kimock, and Grammy-Award winning Planet Drum’s Sikuru Adepoju on talking drum. The 8-song set features brand new original material written by the band with former Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Each of the songs is a mix of live footage integrated with visuals, creating an individual vignette. The second DVD disc contains a bonus behind-the-scenes documentary highlighted by interviews and rehearsal footage. Additionally, the deluxe packaging for the DVD collection includes an exclusive 24-page hard-bound book with original artwork.

The concert, recorded and filmed live at the Chicago Theater during the Rhythm Devils 2006 tour, was produced by StarCity Recordings’ renowned producer and engineer Jeff Glixman (Black Sabbath, Bob Marley, Kansas) with StarCity partner Jim Gentile. Describing the concert experience as a “72 minute magic carpet ride through time and space,” Glixman mixed the performance in 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound at the StarCity Recording Studios in Bethlehem, PA.

Grateful Dead drum and percussion duo Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann were initially given the moniker “Rhythm Devils” in reference to the hallmark live improvisational percussive set they performed for over three decades with the band. Countless recordings, including a Grateful Dead live album titled “Dead Set,” feature Hart’s and Kreutzmann’s performance as a track aptly titled “Rhythm Devils.” Known for creating a remarkable tribal-inspired sound, the duo was tapped by Francis Ford Coppola to record the soundtrack to his epic Academy-Award winning film “Apocalypse Now.”

Loosely forming the Rhythm Devils band in 2006, the collective founded by Hart and Kreutzmann, rounded out by Gordon on bass and Kimock on guitar, first performed together during the Jammy Awards in ’06 where they debuted new material with lyrics by Robert Hunter including “Fountains of Wood,” “The Center,” and “Who Do You Think You Are.” They would reconnect later that summer for a series of shows, before enlisting vocalist Durkin and talking drum pioneer Adepoju for a fall tour run that began with a concert at the Chicago Theater.
